Before you ride to Carvoeiro
- Algar Seco is ten minutes east of the beach along the clifftop boardwalk: eroded sandstone with two holes worn through it that everyone calls A Boneca, the doll.
- That boardwalk is the only flat thing in Carvoeiro. The village itself is built down a ravine, which is why everything is steps.
- It was a fishing village until the 1960s. The beach is small because the cove was never anything bigger — the boats used to be pulled up onto it.

110 m of climbing over 12 km is nothing the motor cannot absorb. It is a hybrid with a motor on it — if the assist runs out you ride on, on seven gears.
